On August 27, 2024, the Public Health Agency of Canada, in collaboration with the Canadian Public Health Association, hosted the National Autism Conference 2024—a virtual event that brought together over 650 attendees from across Canada.
This conference was built upon previous engagements related to the Framework for Autism in Canada and the development of Canada’s Autism Strategy. Participants included:

The event focused on the framework’s five priority areas, with panel discussions and feedback sessions emphasizing the need for a paradigm shift—moving away from a medical model towards strengths-based and needs-based approaches.

Looking Ahead
The conference reinforced the importance of “Nothing About Us Without Us”, ensuring that Autistic voices lead the way in shaping policies, services, and research. Feedback from the event will inform ongoing efforts to build a more inclusive, equitable, and supportive society for Autistic people across Canada.
